On November 4th, citizens in Center, Knight and Pigeon township in Vanderburgh County and Ohio township in Warrick County will have the opportunity to vote in a referendum to shift assessment duties from their township assessors to their respective county assessors. This referendum is an important first step in the effort to modernize local government and promote efficiencies at every level of government.
The ballot question reads: "Should the assessing duties of the elected township assessor in the township be transferred to the county assessor?"
Citizens for Effective Government says "YES," and urges you to vote "YES" Nov. 4.
Voting "YES" will:
- Ensure consistent property assessments by creating a fair and equitable property tax assessment system countywide
- Simplify government by eliminating numerous layers of government between you and the final decision-maker
- Increase accountability by mandating uniform state-wide certifications of a qualified county assessor
Please note that the referendum question is at the end of the ballot, so it is important to finish your ballot and ensure your vote on the referendum initiative!
